Question 2

What is soft washing, and how is it different from pressure washing?

Accepted Answer

Soft washing uses low pressure and a cleaning solution that kills algae, mold and mildew at the root, then rinses it away. Pressure washing blasts the surface with high-pressure water, which can strip shingle granules, crack tile and leave the growth's roots behind so it returns sooner.

Question 3

Is soft washing safe for tile, shingle and metal roofs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Soft washing is low pressure, so it's safe for asphalt shingle, concrete tile, clay tile, metal and flat roofs.

Question 4

What causes the black streaks on my roof?

Accepted Answer

Black streaks on South Florida roofs are usually algae (Gloeocapsa magma) that thrives in heat and humidity. It's a living growth, not dirt, which is why soft washing that kills it at the root works better than pressure washing.
